We loved learning on Buzzfeed that our friends at Justin’s created an almond butter exclusively for John Mayer. All he had to do was tweet his sweet, nutty request and BOOM–2 months later, his wish is delivered. Celebs get all the goods.
Well good news is that when it comes to crafty nut butters, it’s a DIY world my friends. While we have found terrific blends that are prepared for you by awesome companies like Justin’s and YumButter, it’s also really simple to come up with a few favorites right in your own kitchen. Thanks to musician, uh, I mean, Chef John Mayer for inspiring this little riff on the classic spread.
Choc-coco Crunch Butter: Fill an airtight bag with a handful or two of pretzels. Crush the pretzels to coarse pieces. Stir into a bowl of peanut butter. Add chocolate chips and shredded coconut. Serve on sourdough toast.
Cinnamon Apple Peanut Butter: Peel and dice an apple. Season with 1 teaspoon of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Stir into a cup of peanut butter (hey, you can even add a handful of raisins is you want). Scoop onto a thick slice of country bread. Extra points if you throw it under the broiler for a minute or two before chowing down.
Citrus Cranberry Butter: Zest one orange or tangerine. Chop citrus finely, then stir into almond butter. Add dried cranberries. Spread onto whole wheat bread or use as a healthy dip with pretzels or crackers.
